The pattern and color decision is the one most people stall on. Here is how we walk homeowners through it on a site visit.
Start with the house
Pull the base color from something permanent. Brick, stone veneer, roof shingles or the siding. The slab should sit one or two shades lighter than that so the yard does not read as one flat tone.
The patterns we pour most
- Ashlar slate. Mixed rectangles, the most popular choice for patios and pool decks. Reads like cut stone.
- Cobblestone and brick. Classic for front walkways and city sidewalks. Pairs well with colonial and brick homes.
- Wood plank. Looks like decking without the splinters. Good around pools and under covered patios.
- Seamless texture. No pattern lines, just stone texture. The cleanest look for modern homes.
Color is two layers
The color hardener sets the base tone. The release agent adds the darker highlight that settles into the texture. A tan base with a walnut release is the combination we are asked for most in Saratoga County. Ask to see a sample board before you commit, the names on a chart do not tell you much.
Borders
A plain or contrasting border frames the field and hides the saw cuts. It costs a little more and almost always worth it on a patio you will look at every day.
